Volunteer

Sun City Meals on Wheels delivers food to our clients 365 days a year. Volunteers work in teams, a driver and a runner. The drivers use their own vehicles. Runners ride with their teamed drivers, carrying the meals into the residences.

Whether you volunteer alone or with a partner, volunteering with Sun City Meals on Wheels is an opportunity to meet new people and enjoy the rewards of giving.

Volunteers meet between 10:15 and 10:30 at Life Stream, at the Presbyterian church at 12225 103d Ave. The Team Leader provides each team with a map and a route sheet containing the clients’ names, addresses and delivery instructions. The Rehabilitation Center staff loads the food storage containers into the delivery team’s vehicle, and the food is on its way to clients. Delivery takes approximately 1½ to 2 hours depending on the route.

Sun City Meals on Wheels welcomes volunteers and is grateful for the time they donate, whether for a regular route one day a week (or more) or as a substitute to fill in when needed. You may volunteer to drive, run or both. We welcome couples, family members and friends who prefer to volunteer as a team, although our orientation process may require you be divided for some initial “on-the-job” training.
